O’Keefe Rail Trail

The O’Keefe Rail Trail passes through Junortoun along the alignment of the former railway line which ran between Bendigo and Heathcote. The last passenger train ran along this line in 1965, and the final goods train ran on 1968.

The rail trail is now a leisure and commuter path catering for cycling, walking, jogging and other passive recreation.

Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail

The Rail Trail is managed by the City of Greater Bendigo and its promotion, maintenance and extension is supported by the Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail.

The Friends group acts as a specialist trail advisory body to local councils, assisting in a number of ways for the O’Keefe Rail Trail development, advocating for the creation of a Wallan to Heathcote rail trail, the upgrading of the Bendigo Bushland Trail, creating a linked network of trails in regional Victoria, caring about community health and well-being, encouraging more people to walk and cycle, and generally spreading this community enthusiasm.
