The City of Greater Bendigo has produced a draft O’Keefe Rail Trail plan which was recently released for public comment. The consultation period has now closed, but JCAG did make a submission to the draft Plan.
The O’Keefe Rail Trail is a vital part of Junortoun, serving as a linear park, recreational space and connector and commuter route. Over the past decade JCAG volunteers have undertaken tree planting, clean-up days, sign repainting and installed over 120 nestboxes along the trail in a partnership with Catherine McAuley College and Bendigo Domain Village. JCAG enjoys a close working relationship with the Friends of the Bendigo Kilmore Rail Trail.
You can read the draft plan on the Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo web page.
Our response calls for
- Installation of an underpass at McIvor Highway to be made a high priority.
- Development of the Rail Trail as a cycling and micromobility commuter route between Junortoun and central Bendigo.
- Recognition of the Rail Trail as Junortoun’s linear park.
- Improved signage to identify trail entry and exit points.
- Addressing vehicle conflicts at road crossings.
